Research and development
Scientific research applied to the seed sector
An approach based on research and innovation
Research is the heart of the Fenix activity.
Through experimentation and analysis, we develop varieties capable of meeting the needs of a ever-evolving market, integrating technical and agronomic skills with a network of international partners and collaborators
Our work
Research activities and experimentation
Fenix research activities include the selection and evaluation of new varieties, with particular attention to agronomic performance and adaptability to different production contexts.
Variety tests
Field evaluation of new varieties to verify their adaptability and performance.
Agronomic analyses
Study of the productive and qualitative characteristics of crops.
Development Monitoring
Constant monitoring of growth stages, from sowing/transplanting to ripening, harvesting, and post-harvest.
Data collection and analysis
Data processing for a complete and reliable technical evaluation.
Research in the area
The experimental activities take place in the South of Sicily, in a context particularly representative for the Mediterranean basin.
BREEDING
We design resistant varieties for tomorrow's agriculture
1
Data-driven multidisciplinary innovation
The development of a new variety is a rigorous process that requires on average 6 to 7 years of systematic research. At Fenix, breeding is a complex discipline that integrates agronomy, plant pathology, and biotechnology. Every decision is supported by scientific data analysis: we evaluate productivity, uniformity, and, above all, the introduction of genetic resistance to major diseases. This data-driven approach allows us to reduce the margin of error and create more sustainable plants that require fewer chemical treatments. Only excellence surpasses our standards: statistically, only one variety in a thousand successfully completes the entire validation process to reach the market.
Sicily as an open-air laboratory
Sicily, located in the heart of the Mediterranean, represents a unique and strategically fundamental ecosystem for genetic improvement. Its extreme climatic conditions - high humidity, sudden changes in winter temperature and scorching summer temperatures - constitute for us an extraordinary selection opportunity. In these natural 'cold greenhouses', where heating technology is absent, we put our varieties to the test. This allows us to identify and develop plants capable of maintaining high performance even in conditions of severe environmental stress, transforming the critical issues of the territory into a competitive advantage for local and international agriculture.

From genetic innovation to the success of your crop.
Our breeding doesn't stop at research: we work to anticipate market challenges and ensure varieties that combine yield, resistance, and superior quality. Each Fenix hybrid is designed to be a practical and profitable tool in the hands of growers.
